10 January, 2000

Happy new year to you all!

Those of you who have tried to visit the web site over the past week will have probably noticed that the web site was unavailable. The company which hosts this web site recently changed ISPs, and had no end of headaches during the changeover. Thankfully everything is sorted out now, and we appear to be back.

Work progresses the as-yet-unnamed game, although Christmas/New Year slowed things down a little. At the moment there is little to show, as most of the work done so far has been "behind the scenes".

Unfortunately, it appears that the changeover in ISP was not as smooth as we first thought.

During the changeover (which included upgrading the machine hosting the web site), the list of people subscribed to the bms-announce mailing list was lost. The only list of people I have is the list of registered users of our programs. If you wish to be on the mailing list but aren't a registered user, or you have since changed your email address, you will have to resubscribe to the mailing list. Full information on how to subscribe can be found on this page. Please note that the address for the mailing list, as well as the commands to subscribe/unsubscribe, have changed - see the linked page for more information.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

A bit over three months has passed, and not a lot of news to report. The mailing list appears to be working again, although I have no idea how many people I lost when the original list of subscribers was deleted. The subscription address has changed (again), but the old addresses all still work, so no one should notice any difference. Apparently the computer hosting this site is being moved over to OS X Server over the next few weeks - hopefully this time everything will be a lot smoother!

You may have noticed that there is a link on the main page to a company called "Tassiemade". While I don't generally like web advertising (those banner adds at the top of web pages get annoying at times), Tassiemade are the people who currently host the BMS website, so I feel that I can make an exception in this case.

Work on various programs has been a bit slow - a lot slower than I would have liked. Currently bubbling away in the coding pot are new versions of Days To Go (which will be getting a major revamp) and EjectDisk, and two new programs (both games). Currently the only time frame I have is that they will all be finished some time before the sun goes nova!

Finally, if you have ever wondered what it is like to be a developer full time (I have), you should check out the design diary of the owner/head programmer at Lupin Games. While they develop commercial games for Windows machines, it is interesting reading. Well, I found it interesting!

EjectDisk 3.1.3 has been released! EjectDisk 3.1.3 adds the ability to open the CD/DVD tray (if empty). No more reaching for the open button if you want to insert a CD/DVD into your computer! You can download this latest version from the EjectDisk information page

EjectDisk 3.1.4 has just been released, and it is recommended that all users of EjectDisk update their copy to this new version.

The new version fixes a nasty bug which could cause EjectDisk to sometimes fail to recognise removable drives, or even crash when trying to eject the disk. It also adds support for the VST Firewire Zip drive, and adds some checking to try and detect corrupted preferences. Finally, now when you make a change in the EjectDisk application to your key settings, the changes are made immediately (so you no longer have to quit the application before you can try out your settings).

You can download the new version of EjectDisk from the EjectDisk information page

*Sigh*. It seems like another month, another update to EjectDisk. Unfortunately, a bug has been found in EjectDisk 3.1.4 which would cause it to not work with internal IDE Zip/Jaz drives. Since these are fairly rare, this problem doesn't affect a lot of people. EjectDisk 3.1.5 fixes this problem. You can download the new version of EjectDisk from the EjectDisk information page.
